Screen Printing - Hedgehogs
I've been playing with screen printing techniques again and have found something a little easier than screen block! I have no idea what it is called but its basically a giant piece of Sellotape! I'm still keeping it simple until I can work out an easy way of registering the prints (at the moment its masking tape on the table). I still don't think I have got it quite right as the colour is a little blotchy but these are the best attempt so far! I'm also toying with the idea of hand drawing inside the heart with gold marker but I don't know weather I should or not. At this point I would like to say thanks to Chris Howker who pretty much told me to ditch the screen block! So I did. Ta da! Better start thinking up my next step :)

Ermine Yponomeuta Moths
I know these Caterpillars have absolutely nothing to do with design but I have been watching them for the last few weeks and just had to share! The hedge rows around my area are completely plastered in web! And its all thanks to these little fellas. The will eventually turn into Ermine Yponomeuta Moths. If you click the link you will be able to see the moths and the type of web I am talking about! Its pretty impressive :)

However, if you are on Society6 you can promote him if you like? Or even buy him as a print, phone cover, laptop skin, shirt or hoody!

Wojciech Kołacz
I know very little about Wojciech Kołacz other than he is a Polish designer, sculptor and illustrator. His web site has a vast array of work but I was drawn to the above project as I like to see 'faces' in trees. However, he has gone one step further and actually put them there! They are a little eerie but sweet at the same time, if that is possible. A lovely find nonetheless! Check out his work :)

Katie Moth
This is the work of textiles designer Katie Moth.
Unfolding Haiku:
'The Unfolding Haiku follows a simple story taking various elements from exisiting Japanese Haikus. It is made up of 6 books which go from dark to light, like the story beginning in winter and ending in spring.'
'They have been hand dyed then hand painted, screen printed, digitally printed and stitched. The books are displayed hanging so the loose threads and origami pieces tumble down from them. The envelopes are made from old pattern pieces and screen printed tissue.'
'The project was displayed at New Designers 2007 and from this selected for the New Designers Selection exhibition at the prestigious Oxo Tower as 1 of 50 of the best talents from that year. This was also featured in Design Week magazine.'

A poster for Jack:
'As part of Project10 I designed a poster highlighting a potentially common indication of Autism. My aim; to print and sell the posters and donate the proceeds to charity.
I spoke to my good friend, Paul at Generation Press, who kindly offered to donate their time and experience to producing 100 beautifully silkscreened prints on GF Smith Colorplan.
All the proceeds will go to helping a six year old boy with autism called Jack Armstrong, a neighbour of fellow designer Lucy Brown. Money raised will be donated to help support Jack's parents so that Jack can attend another Intensive Sonrise course in America to ensure his development continues.
500 x 700mm, white silkscreen on 175gsm GFSmithColorplan (Bright Red). Thanks to GFSmith for donating the paper.'

Sorry for the late post people! My mac decided to die and its been an absolute nightmare to try and sort out. Luckily a super long phone call to apple saved the day. So... Chris Howker
I have finally managed to work down my favourites list to the work of Chris Howker. I have decided to share his Running With Scissors - Don't Panic, D&AD win with you all! I'm sure my mother has many colouring books in the loft where my colouring looks exactly like that! He also has lots of other ace work worth looking at over on his portfolio page so click his name to go there! Even though it is a little late, WELL DONE CHRIS :)
'Having fun is important for me and the older I get the more I look to my childhood for inspiration. I still have a love of cartoons and toys, both of which inform my work. I may have swapped my crayons for a screen printing press and photoshop but 'play' is always at the centre of my work. As is an excitement about learning something new either through collaboration or exploration of new materials, techniques or ways of thinking.'

Pattern Matters - Paper Calendar
Wow what a treat today! These paper calendars are amazing! Check out the rest of the work by Pattern Matters too :)
'Pattern Matters is a graphic design-based project inquiring on possible ways to augment the role of pattern by looking into the design process and tactile exploration through pattern making. It demonstrates the way of how this design element of pattern can be adopted differently on various platforms in graphic design. The main objective of this project is to inspire designers to look at pattern in every possible angles. Pattern Matters also aims to demonstrate that pattern is a crucial form of design element in graphic design which eventually evident that pattern is not merely a decorating tool.'
