Little Fishes

This is a little illustration that I have been working on lately. I'm not sure why they are swimming in a circle or even how to finish it. If anyone has any ideas on how to finish it I'd love to hear them! :)

The Burning House

It was really difficult to choose which images to put here as this wonderful web site has so many and each one says something different about the person who took it. For those are not familiar with The Burning House here is their bio.

'If your house was burning, what would you take with you? It's a conflict between what's practical, valuable and sentimental. What you would take reflects your interests, background and priorities. Think of it as an interview condensed into one question.'

I could sit here for hours and read through every single entry but unfortunately I can't. However, I may even send in one myself :) If you have some spare time today make sure you have a little look.

Emmeline Pidgen - Riot Clean Up 2011 - The Prints!

You may remember a few weeks ago I did a post on Emmeline Pidgen's Riot Clean Up illustration. Well now you can buy it as a print and all money raised will be going to a wonderful cause! All you have to do is click here to visit the ebay pages. Go on, dig deep and do your good deed for the day :)

Inspired by the fantastic clean up effort in Manchester, Emmeline has created 75 limited edition screen prints of which only 50 will go on public sale. Here is your chance to own one of these.

The print is A2 sized and on high quality 280gsm paper, signed and numbered by the artist.
The print is perfect for local businesses, collectors and individuals wanting to show their support towards the cleanup effort.

All the money raised will be going to Reclaim (www.reclaimproject.org.uk) and Leap Confronting Conflict (www.leapcc.org.uk) to assist with the delivery of their community focussed projects.
The prints were produced by John Powell-Jones (aka http://www.savwo.co.uk/) who has contributed his printing expertise and Ben Hiard from Pop Bubble Rock! (http://www.popbubblerock.com/) has also been kind enough to contribute towards print materials.

See No Evil - Bristol

This weekend I ventured up to Bristol and had a look at the See No Evil Exhibition on Nelson Street. It has been one of the most ambitious urban art projects in the world! For a long time Bristol has been the centre for urban art in the United Kingdom and now it hosts some of the world's largest scale paintings! Here are many of the photos I took whilst wandering around.

Not even the trees were safe! This tree had been lovingly wrapped in knitted bands of pink and purple. Every now then you would also spot the odd shoe which had plants inside hanging from a line which was really quite nice because it was bringing nature into such a concrete environment.

This little arch had been painted like the Sistine Chapel but in a more urban street art way.

These last two pieces were incredible! I have no idea how you would create something on such a large scale especially the 'fox' piece as its quite detailed.

All in all it was an ace day and if you are in the area its definitely worth a look. I'm unsure as to how long Bristol Council will be keeping it up but you can find more information over on the See No Evil web site :)

Running for crayons

This is the super work of Running for crayons a.k.a Tilly. I first discovered her work when I submitted my entry to the Space Exhibition as part of the Cardiff Design Festival. There are many other lovely pieces over on her web site and she has had some amazing clients!

Her bio:
'Tilly is a smaller than average person. She's repeatedly purchasing black rimmed glasses but is ever aspiring to one day buy the red sparkly Vivienne Westwoods.
She graduated in 2006 from Brighton University with an MA in Sequential illustration. Since graduating she has drawn constantly in her studio by the sea and has worked on a varied range of commissions from editorial, publishing and advertising.'

Lizz Lunney

This is the work of Lizz Lunney. She creates little comic images and appears to add a new one every day! They are so simple but most of them are really funny! I really like her style because it reminds me of Edward Monkton, whose work I like very much! Be sure to visit her web site to check out the many other comic delights :)

Lizz is an illustrator from Birmingham. She likes green tea, knitting and cats. Other animals she thinks are good include rabbits, elves, bears, dragons, unicorns, monkeys, dinosaurs, lions, tigers and meercats.

Oh GOSH Project - Fundraising Charity Book

A few months ago I created a page for Jason Smith's oh GOSH project charity colouring book and I can finally reveal my page! My little picture is the one above where a small child is dancing on top of a cup cake with a few other woodland creatures. I'll add more details as I get them such as the book launch date, venue and places where you can purchase this colouring book.

For more images of the project please visit Jason Smith's portfolio pages.

I met a fox!

Did I mention that whilst I was on holiday I met a fox? :)

The Fox and the Hedgehog - Postcards

You may remember I did a little illustration a few weeks ago of a Fox and a Hedgehog. I had it turned into postcards for the #ohGOSHproject launch! 60 turned up on my door on friday which gives me 10 left over to send to some lovely people. Not sure who yet! But I'll re home them some how :)

Tate St Ives

I'm back! I had a super wonderful holiday in Cornwall, so much so that I didn't want to come home :( Whilst we were there we made a visit to Tate St Ives and saw the Summer Exhibition 2011. The sea facing gallery space was filled with hundreds of white balloons. This was an installation by Turner Prize winner Martin Creed and was entitled half the air in a given space. The viewer was given the opportunity to walk through this sea of balloons which was an incredible experience yet very odd. As you can see from the photo it made my hair extremely static and was VERY difficult to brush afterwards. The second exhibition was by roman ondák and I really enjoyed having my height charted with my name and date. As simple as it is, it was lovely because I haven't done that since I was a small child. Many many people had passed through this exhibition so you could see the average height as there was just a thick band of black ink around the room. Essentially it is a living info graphic as it is constantly growing and expanding each day that people add their data.

If your planning a visit to Tate St Ives pop over to their web site for some more info.

Origami Chicken is going on holiday!

Liu Bolin - The Invisible Man

Cat Scan

This little blog; Cat Scan is along the same lines of 'Scanwiches' except this time its cats being scanned! Its as simple as that. This is what it says on their bio: Got a cat? Got a scanner? The choice is clear.
We also rummage the interwebs searching for cats on scanners...

Although some images are a little repetitive there are some really funny ones too, like the ones I have picked above. Go on, check it out :)

Emmeline Pidgen - Riot Clean Up 2011

Anyone who is on twitter will know that #riotcleanup was trending for most of the day yesterday as communities used the social network for the positive to organise cleaning up the affected areas. Needless to say it was an amazing success with everyone pulling together to try and sort out the mess from the night before. It showed a real sense of community spirit which I believe my friend Emmeline Pidgen has captured very well here. For the last few days we have been bombarded with nothing but negativity and this image is really refreshing to see. Remember: Communities can be stronger than criminals!

The Fox and the Hedgehog

Its been a while since I have created anything worth sharing. I created this for postcards that I need to get printed for promotional use for the #ohGOSHproject. Originally it had outlines but I'm starting to tire of my illustration style so I have started trying to make images without them and this is probably my most successful one so far.

If you like it could you please press the promote button for me over on Society6? If you like it that much you can even treat yourself by purchasing it as a print, iPhone/iPod skin or cover, laptop skin or even a shirt or hoody :)

Edward McGowan

These beautiful illustrations were created for The Times by Edward McGowan. His work takes on a printed effect which gives each illustration a little more character. A technique that I am yet to work out let alone master! Pop over to his site for some more wonderful work.

Oliver Voss - The Bather

This is a floating 3 piece work of art by Oliver Voss, the floating sculpture in Alster Lake, Hamberg, Germany is designed to look like a woman bathing in the lake hence its name, The Bather. The sculpture is 13ft high and is 98ft long. Its only there for 10 tens so you'd have be super quick if you want to see it now!

Steven Bonner

This is the wonderful work of Steven Bonner. Much of his work is beautifully flowing curvy shapes with bright vibrant colours. However, I was attracted to this piece because of its nautical retro feel. Please take a look a his web site to view the rest of his vast portfolio of work.

Aardman - Worlds Largest Stop Motion Animation

This is incredible! You can watch the full video over on the telegraph web site as I couldn't embed it here.

The Telegraph:
Shooting entirely on smartphones, Oscar-winners Aardman break the world record for the largest stop-motion animation set as they create Gulp on Pendene Beach in South Wales.

The short film broke the world record with the biggest scene stretching over 11,000 square feet of Welsh sand. Gulp tells the story of a hunter becoming the hunted as the tables turn on a lone fisherman after he lands a big catch.

Shot using only Nokia smartphones, the film was created by directors Sumo Science, part of Oscar-winning animation studio Aardman whose most famous creations include stop-motion characters Wallace and Gromit.

The film-makers also released a short making-of video which helps to shed light on the mammoth production. Hundreds of crew members and volunteers, along with a cast of one, painstakingly worked around the clock one frame at a time to create the 78-second clip.

Colourbox

This is the wonderful work of colourbox. The images above are from an illustrated interview done for Poketo. They caught my eye because its not very often you see illustrated answers to interviews! They are so simple yet really eye grabbing. I particularly like the last image about drawing what you can't see with the naked eye in a forest because I'd say something along the same lines :) Click the colourbox link above to visit the rest of the work :)
