Amber Vittoria - Interview

This week I had a lovely email from a person named Amber who is from New York! She showed me some of her work and was nice enough to take part in a little interview for Origami Chicken. Here is a chance to learn a little bit more about Amber Vittoria :)

Hello Amber!
First things first! For readers who have yet to discover you tell them a little more about yourself.

Hi everyone! I'm an illustrator and designer currently living in New York. My educational background is in graphic design, but while in college, illustration found its way into a lot of my work and is now (luckily) a huge part of my professional portfolio. Art aside, I love sock monkeys (it's actually an addiction), traveling to new places (besides New York, Arizona is one of my favorites states to visit), and summer (though fall is pretty too). I also am infatuated with tattoos; though I only have two, I spend a good portion of my off-time drooling over tattoo artwork.

How would you describe your work?

My work, though rooted in the basics of design (composition, typography, color, etc), likes to push boundaries. It is colorful, other-worldy, and a bit surreal.

Is there anything in particular that really inspires you?

Nature and religion are my biggest influences; the idea of nature vs. nurture in not only humans, but also all species, is a reoccurring theme in my work.

What is the process behind your work (if you don’t mind sharing of course).

I approach all of my work (personal and professional) in a similar way; I always start by sketching (which probably explains why I have boxes of sketchbooks), and then (if needed) I take the work to the computer and re-draw/ design the piece digitally. After that initial draft, I (or the client) make(s) edits, taking away the unnecessary elements. This latter step repeats until I have reached the final piece.

Do you have any super exciting projects in the pipeline that you’re allowed to talk about?

Yes! I've been working on a children's book about Planet ROM, a personal character set, that discusses the importance of imagination and magic. It should be finished within the next few weeks, and I'll post the link to buy it off of Amazon once it is ready!

Where can we find you online?

All of my work can be found on www.ambervittoria.com and my twitter is @amber_vittoria.

Go ahead and check out the rest of Ambers work and follow her updates on twitter! Have a great weekend everyone! And Thank You Amber! :)
